Description
Apple Original (1st Gen) Dead HomePod No-Power Repair Fix Service
Order this repair service if your Apple Original HomePod 1st Gen (Model: A1639, MPN: MQHV2LL/A or MQHW2LL/A) does not turn on – aka “HomePod No-Power”. In such cases, the HomePod shows no signs of life when you plug it into a power outlet. The status light wheel on top does not light up, and the HomePod is practically “bricked”.
While the symptom suggests a malfunction of the internal power adapter, the root cause is often simpler. A small internal, failed Schottky barrier diode on the amplifier board. When this diode shorts-out, the HomePod becomes completely unresponsive when plugged in to a power outlet.
The HomePod no-power service includes:
To remedy the problem and to ensure longevity of your HomePod, we perform the following in this “HomePod No Power” service:
- We desolder the faulty Schottky barrier diode, and solder a brand new diode from a known-good production batch back onto the amplifier board.
- We bolster the padding between the subwoofer and the support frame using a high-quality durable foam. We may do the same the woofer and the top ring to stem any potential rattles that may be caused due to aging rubber grommets that anchor the woofer to the frame.
- We use a high-density 3M foam tape on the ribbon that connect the logic board to the amplified board, microphones, and the diagnostics port to prevent contact of the ribbon with the subframe.
- We reset the unit, update the firmware/software and test overnight to ensure everything is OK.
- In some cases, we may also replace four ceramic capacitors that eventually tend to fail on the amplifier board. When they fail, the result very loud “death farts”, which renders your HomePod practically unusable.
All of the above services are a part of our HomePod No-Power service, and included in your purchase.

“Outstanding service and super-fast turnaround. How to cost-effectvely salvage a dead-as-a-doornail $300 speaker that is very hard to disassemble let alone figure out what to repair? Apple wanted $275 to do it (no comment), MN Tech did a superb job for a fraction of that, the unit is like new and works flawlessly. Bravo! And excellent communication all along.”

Exceeded all my expectations. Very professional. Kept in the loop thru the entire process. They even did some preventive maintenance replacing some capacitors that were weak but not yet failing at no charge. The best customer experience I have had in years. The turn around time was quick as well.

Minn-Tech went above and beyond with my second homepod repair. They repaired parts that were worn out but didn’t need to be replaced (yet), free of charge! This is the kind of customer service more companies need to implement! Very happy with my newly fixed homepod that will hopefully last many years to come! Thanks!

After moving to a new place, one of my HomePods wouldn’t turn on and I thought the only option would be to buy a new one… But these guys fixed it in no time, and I found it extra handy that they provide a shipping label. Cannot recommend them enough!

EXCELLENT, WOW, FANTASTIC WOULD DEFINITELY USE AGAIN!!! My son’s first generation HomePod was dead. Apple wants $275 to fix, might as well buy a new one. Googled the symptoms, saw YouTube videos on how to fix, honestly I would never be able to put it back together on first try, not to mention buying the right tools. Googled repairs in my area (Chicago suburbs), nothing. Came across Minn-Tech, what a find. For $69 (including shipping both ways!), Minn-Tech fixed the no power issue and replaced four ceramic DC filter capacitors as a preventive measure at no additional charge! Sent the HomePod on Tuesday 10/29 and was just delivered today, Monday 11/4. Works perfectly. Couldn’t ask for a better result. Thank you Minn-Tech!!! My family has 7 other first gen HomePods, needless to say I’ve booked marked Minn-Tech. THANK YOU!!!

My HomePod died on me after updating to 18.1. It would show no sign of life, even when connected to power. I called Minn-Tech and was given the reassurance I needed to purchase the $69 option to fix my HomePod. They helped me figure out the best way to pack the HomePod for shipment, updated me when they received my HomePod and the condition it arrived in, and told me what the issue was and what they did to fix it. The whole process took exactly a week to ship out and for them to fix and ship it back to me. They also replaced additional parts with no additional charge that were worn for preventative maintenance known to cause the subwoofer to fail.
I just received my HomePod last night, and it is moving and grooving in my stereo pair. I highly recommend Minn Tech if you’re looking for an easy way to fix your HomePod that wont break your bank.
