Description
Death Fart – Apple Original HomePod Repair Service
A death fart is a notably loud sound from the HomePod’s woofer, typically followed with a reboot. If your HomePod is experiencing this issue, this service is for you.
Original, 1st Gen Apple HomePods (Model: A1639, MPN: MQHV2LL/A or MQHW2LL/A) are susceptible to decaying ceramic capacitors on the amplifier board. Once they no longer hold charge as intended, the result is audible popping sounds, or a very loud pop (or “fart”), and a reboots. To remedy the problem, these capacitors need to be replaced.
The HomePod Death Fart repair service includes:
To remedy the problem and to ensure longevity of your HomePod, we perform the following in this “HomePod death fart” service:
- We desolder the four faulty ceramic capacitors, and solder brand new high-quality capacitors back onto the amplifier board.
- We bolster the padding between the subwoofer and the support frame using a high-quality durable foam. We may do the same the woofer and the top ring to stem any potential rattles that may be caused due to aging rubber grommets that anchor the woofer to the frame.
- We use a high-density 3M foam tape on the ribbon that connect the logic board to the amplified board, microphones, and the diagnostics port to prevent contact of the ribbon with the subframe.
- We reset the unit, update the firmware/software and test overnight to ensure everything is OK.
- In some cases, we may also replace a Schottky barrier diode if it matches certain production batch numbers. Failure of this particular diode will result in a completely non-responsive HomePod. While we’re there, we check this as well for a peace of mind.
All of the above services are a part of our HomePod death fart service, and included in your purchase.

Minn-Tech provided a fantastic service experience for repairing worn out capacitors on my 1st-gen HomePods. The whole process took less than a week including shipping both ways, and the fee was very reasonable given alternatives. I would use Minn-Tech again for this repair without hesitation.
