Repairing a “no-power” HomePod 1st Gen is a fairly involved process, mostly because it is difficult to get into the HomePod. The issue is rarely the power supply. Usually, the root cause is often a shorted-out Schottky barrier diode on the amplifier board, which needs to be replaced.
Blinking volume buttons is also a common failure symptom with the original 1st Gen HomePods. The root cause can be a hardware malfunction (typically a NAND flash memory problem), but a failed update may also lead to corrupted firmware/software causing the blinking + – volume buttons. This video shows a summary of the procedure that we employ to flush and restore the software which brings these otherwise bricked HomePods back to life.
